Neither team has figured out a way to win on home ice yet in the Eastern Conference finals as the Washington Capitals visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday for Game 5 of the best-of-seven series. The Capitals had a 7-1 edge in even-strength goals to dominate the first two games in Tampa Bay and the Lightning responded by winning two in Washington with a red-hot power play and brilliant goaltending from Andrei Vasilevskiy. Vasilevskiy stopped 72 of the 76 shots he faced the last two games. The Philadelphia Flyers have both raised expectations and anxiety levels with pronounced winning and winless streaks this season. Following a red-hot 10-0-1 run to end February with an 0-4-1 start to March, the Flyers continue their stretch against formidable foes this afternoon when they host the surging Winnipeg Jets at Wells Fargo Center. While Philadelphia has yet to taste victory this month, Winnipeg has won all four of its contests in March and improved to 3-0-0 on its season-high six-game road trip with a 3-2 triumph over New Jersey. NHL Second Star of the Week Patrik Laine scored his eight goal in four contests to extend his point streak to 10 games (14 goals, six assists) for the Jets, who are 9-2-0 in their last 11 overall and 7-0-1 in their last eight on the road.

The Calgary Flames hope to put together a winning streak following an 0-3-1 slide and move closer to a playoff berth in the Western Conference when they conclude their three-game road trip today against the Ottawa Senators. Calgary halted its skid with Wednesday's 5-1 triumph in Buffalo and is involved in a tight battle for the second wild-card spot, as well as second and third place in the Pacific Division. Sean Monahan was one of four members of the Flames to record a goal and an assist against the Sabres, ending his four-game point drought, and is one tally shy of matching the career high of 31 he set in 2014-15. Ottawa squandered a pair of one-goal leads Thursday and went on to suffer a 4-3 loss to Buffalo in a shootout. The Blackhawks looked pretty good against the Capitals, but I’ll obviously caution in reading too much into one decent performance as it was Chicago’s first win in over a month. Additionally I’ll point out that the Kings are 4-1 in their last five against teams with losing records, while the Blackhawks are just 1-9 in their last ten when playing on one days rest. Goalie Ben Bishop has dominated the Sabres in his career (10-0-1, 1.61 goals-against average, .940 save percentage). Dallas could use more production through the lineup and forward Mattias Janmark, who missed all of last season to injury, has points in his last three games (one goal, two assists).

Vancouver failed to score at all in its last contest as it dropped a 2-0 decision to New Jersey on Wednesday to fall to 1-1-1 on its five-game homestand. The defeat put an end to a five-game point streak (4-0-1) for the Canucks, who have yet to have a player reach double digits in points. Brock Boeser, a 20-year-old rookie right wing, tops the club with nine - including a team-leading five that have come on the power play.  Evgeni Malkin had his three-game goal-scoring streak snapped in Calgary but notched an assist to give him a point in four straight contests. The 31-year-old Russian shares the team lead in tallies (six) and points (15) while topping the club in power-play goals (four) and game-winners (three). Phil Kessel also has registered 15 points.

Michal Neuvirth turned aside all 33 shots he faced versus the Blues as he, like Varlamov, rebounded from an abysmal performance (five goals) in his previous outing. The 29-year-old has yielded two tallies or fewer in four of his five starts this season, with impressive work being supplied by 20-year-old Ivan Provorov as he presides over a relatively green defense. Provorov tied a franchise record with 10 blocked shots on Thursday and logged 27:08 of ice time, marking the fourth straight game that he has eclipsed 27 minutes.
